The conductors of the Italian Youth Choir 

For the years 2017-2019 the conduction of the choir is entrusted to Luigi Marzola e Carlo Pavese

Luigi Marzola

Graduated in organ, piano and choir conducting,Luigi Marzola studied with Norbert Balatsch at the S. Cecilia Academy in Rome. He studied singing with Margaret Hayward and chamber vocal repertoire, as a pianist, with Dalton Baldwin.

As an organist, harpsichordist, pianist and choir conducting, he worked with many italian and international concert organizations in Belgium, China, Greece, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, United States, Taiwan and Switzerland. He is often get invited as a member of the jury in national and international choral competitions and to teach masterclasses on the choral, lyric and vocal repertoire for choir conductors, singers and pianists.

He worked for many years with the Lugano Musikhochschule as choir director and choir conducting lecturer. From 1996 to 2013 he was the conductor of the Cantemus Vocal Group in Lugano and in 1998 he created the Calycanthus duo with the soprano Dan Shen.

He is a professor of choir conducting technique at the superior academy for choir conductors of the Guido d'Arezzo Foundation and of piano accompaniment at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he coordinates the diploma course in conductor collaborator.

He is a founding member of the Arione cultural Association and President of the Association for the abolition of spoken solfeggio (www.aasp.it) which promotes reflection on the superior artistic and music training.

For the years 2017-2019 he was appointed conductor of the Italian Youth Choir.

Carlo Pavese

Carlo Pavese is an italian musician, graduated in composition and choral music at the G. Verdi Conservatory of Turin. He studied piano and orchestra conducting. As a scholar of De Sono, he refined his studies in Stockholm with Gary Graden. He also studied with Eric Ericson, Tõnu Kaljuste, Frieder Bernius and Ragnar Rasmussen.

He created and directed the Coro 900 of Turin, the Siryn Vocal Ensemble of Stockholm and the Torino Vocalensemble. He is the conductor of Coro G, founded in 2003, and since 2005 he is artistic director of the Piccoli Cantori of Turin Association, where he manages the children’s choir, the Giovani Cantori of Turin and the music school with its several choral groups. He is often invited by international festivals and masterclass as a teacher of choral conducting, interpretation and improvisation, and as lecturer of choral ateliers.

He has concucted several productions of chamber opera at the Piccolo Regio in Turin (among which A dragon in a cage by G. Castagnoli and Man and Boy by M. Nyman) and the Teatro Comunale of Bologna. He is composer and choral music arranger.

He was Artistic manager of the Europa Cantat XVIII Torino 2012 Festival and since november 2018 he is the President of the European Choral Association-Europa Cantat, after serving it as Vice President from 2012 to 2018.

For the years 2017-2019 he was appointed conductor of the Italian Youth Choir.
